Video Games for Social Change Workshop

Submitted by girlbot on Thu, 01/24/2008 - 9:59am
Short Description:

HHow do even simple games embody human values? How can they be
discovered, and how can activists plan to create new games which feature a strong ethos? Mary Flanagan (Hunter College) will direct a grassroots workshop titled “Grow-a-Game!” using cards her team developed. The Grow-a-Game cards are a game design tool developed as part of the Values at Play research project (valuesatplay.org), a project to help designers understand and implement values in game design. In this workshop the team will start by using the cards to stimulate discussion, showing video examples of particular games. Next, the group will use the cards in the context of an actual brainstorming session to propose novel game
ideas. No experience in game design required!
